Collision repair centers are an excellent service to the public, but you do have to leave one of your prized possessions behind if it needs repairs. Here is a look at some of the common questions people tend to have about leaving their vehicles at a collision repair center.
Why do collision centers ask you to leave gas in your fuel tank?
When you drop off your vehicle at a collision center, you may be surprised to find out that you need to have a certain level of fuel in your fuel tank. It's not that someone is going to be taking your vehicle for a joyride; the technicians who do the work may need to move the vehicle or even take the vehicle down the road to make sure everything is functioning properly after they perform repairs. It just makes it easier for the repair professionals if you have fuel in your tank so they do not have to add it themselves.
Is it OK to leave personal belongings in your vehicle?
It is best if you remove your personal belongings from your vehicle before leaving it at the collision center for a couple of different reasons. For one, you may not have access to your vehicle if something comes up and you need something out of your car after hours. Secondly, it is better to remove personal belongings so there is no chance of them getting damaged or taken while they are parked at the collision center. Even though collision centers hire trustworthy individuals, theft can be an issue by outsiders in the area. It is also possible for things to get knocked around or lost during repair processes.
Why can't you just leave your vehicle at the shop periodically?
If your wrecked vehicle is the only one that you have to drive, it is normal to be concerned about leaving it at the shop for longer than you have to if your vehicle is still driveable. For example, many customers wonder if they can bring in their vehicle, allow the service tech to examine it and order parts, and then go on and take the car home until the parts come in. While some collision centers are willing to do this, many will not, but it is for good reason. It is far easier to start work on a vehicle and order the parts as you go along because some problems may not be immediately evident.
